Free Comic Book Day 2024 at Gosh!

It’s return was foretold in the Previews catalogue of yore! You’re another year older and if we missed your birthday, let us shower you with the gift of free comics (free to you, we still have to pay for them). We've got big plans for this year and promise to make Free Comic Book Day at Gosh! an entertaining day packed with (très) fun activities. FCBD will be taking place on Saturday 4th May 2024 from 10am.

Before we get into anything else, Free Comic Book Day will, of course, be a day to grab some comics released exclusively for the day. Much in the spirit of record store day, this is a great way to introduce new readers to the medium of comics and to bring existing fans something to enjoy! We'll be trying to reduce in-store congestion by distributing the comics in blind bags of 5, available free with a purchase. You can see the full selection of titles available on the day by clicking here.

We like to celebrate the festivities a little more here. So, starting from the moment we open, which is even slightly earlier than usual at 10am, we'll be hosting a selection of kids workshops and signings that will run all through the day. We’ll even have local artists Yetunde Ekuntuyi and Clio Isadora decorating our windows with paintings to celebrate FCBD!

Our kids workshop will give the chance for children aged 6-12 to sit down and draw with a bunch of our invited comics artists!

Kicking off our kids workshop from 10am, we welcome our friends over at Bog Eyed Books. They'll be here with a handful of their artists including Tor Freeman, Gary Northfield and Woodrow Phoenix.

Following that, from 11am, Flying Eye Presents a special workshop and activity table with artist Adam Allsuch Boardman, author of An Illustrated History of UFO’s, Urban Legends and Filmaking!

And to finish our kids workshop, at 12pm we welcome the Monster Fun crew, Rebellion's super spooky and funny kids comic with Claude T.C., Ned Hartley and Ramzee!

Then from 1pm, we start our set of three signings for the day. At 1pm, we welcome the acclaimed creator of Hilda, Luke Pearson who will also be launching a Gosh! Exclusive collection of his short comics and an exclusive signed print.

From 2pm we’ll be joined by a stellar lineup of Guardian / Observer Cartoonists, Chris Riddell and Tom Gauld!

From 3pm we’ll be joined by comics writing powerhouse Kieron Gillen, filmmaker and comics writer Ben Wheatley, writer extraordinaire Dan Watters and renowned comics artist Caspar Wijngaard!

Phew what a day.
