Hound Signing with Paul Bolger!

We're happy to welcome writer and artist, Paul Bolger to the store on Saturday 2nd April,1pm-2pm, to celebrate the release of Hound from Dark Horse Comics!

Paul Bolger and Barry Devlin's bloodthirsty opus is finally collected in its entirety! Hound contains all three previously released volumes of this retelling of the classic Irish myth of Cú Chulainn, otherwise known as "The Hound of Ulster". Years in the making, the book has been a passion project for the pair and marks their first graphic novel. Published by Dark Horse and with some further colouring duties taken on by Dee Cunniffe (Image's Crossover, DC's House of Kal-El) this striking and emotive comic is an essential addition to any fan of celtic mythologies bookshelf.

Originally planned to be an animated feature film, after edits to the script from Devlin the story evolved into something else entirely, the pages being put together and drawn in between Bolger's day job of working in animation. You may recognise his name from such formative classics All Dogs Go To Heaven, The Land Before Time and the recent animated triumph, Loving Vincent. Barry Devlin has written for both the big and small screens, radio, and is a key member of the pioneering Celtic rock band, Horslips.

"In 50 BCE, Morrigan, the goddess of war, has become restless as a long-lasting peace settles over Ireland. Deciding the time of peace must end, she chooses Setanta, the nephew of the king of the north, to become her ward. After a young Setanta slays the demon-hound of Cullan, he becomes known as C Cullan-The Hound of Cullan. As C Cullan grows older, it is apparent that an extraordinary power lies within him . . . and a great darkness. When he chooses the quiet life of a farmer over the sword, Morrigan, angry at the betrayal, instigates an invasion of his homeland and C Cullan must challenge fate itself to keep the goddess at bay."

Paul will be signing copies of the book on Saturday 9th April, 1pm - 2pm, and answering any questions you may have about life in the bloodthirsty Celtic iron age! Paul will also be bringing some exclusive bookplates to the event so get down early to secure one! As with our recent communications, while mask-wearing is no longer compulsory, we do ask (where possible!) for you to continue wearing your masks and maintaing social distancing.
