The Gosh! Authority 04.11.26

Hello!

I'm back from the land of vegemite and cherry ripes, and have I got a week of events for you! First up, this Thursday, 7-9pm, we're hosting a launch party for our old friends Nick Abadzis and Angela Watson, who are celebrating the release of their excellent graphic novel My Beloved Other. Details here.

Then on Saturday, 1-2pm, the legend that is Shelly Bond will be here with amazing collaborators Philip Bond, Davidt Dunlop, Asimina Hollingworth, Clio Isadora, Beck Kubrick, Peter Milligan, Mark Mosedale, Anna Readman and Si Smith. They're signing copies of their new anthology subCULTURE! Details here.

Still at a loose end on Saturday from 2-3pm? Fear not, Luke Pearson will be here signing copies of his new book Hilda and Twig Find a Space Rock. Details here.

Alright, let's see what's going in with those comics this week...

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

• AVENGERS #1 - Shades of Bendis' New Avengers here as the crack team of Chip Zdarsky & Marco Checchetto reunite. In the wake of Avengers Armageddon, they've got a roster of A-listers on the team: Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain Marvel, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Sentr--err--Miracleman!

• SPIDER-WOMAN #1 - Unlike the Bendis era of Avengers, Jessica Drew hasn't made the new team. But fear not, Drewbies, Dan Watters and Andrea Broccardo have got you covered with a new ongoing series to celebrate her 50th anniversary! She's battling enemies without and within, as the Carnage symbiote battles to take control.

• ARCHIE IN HELL #1 - Great creative team onj this new adult-oriented Archie horror story that's in the tradition of Afterlife With Archie. Patrick Horvath and Tyler Crook bring a battle between secret cultists and hidden witches to the streets of Riverdale, and the outcome will change the lives of Archie Andrews and his pals forever!

• GANGS OF GOTHAM #1 - I can't believe our Luke - #1 Anarky fan - is off this week! He's going to miss out on Lonnie Machin's attempt to take over the low-level gangs of Gotham. But he's going to have to work around the similar machinations of Stephanie Brown: former Robin; former Spoiler; former Batgirl; current Clu.

• FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD MARY JANE #1 - Face it, tiger, you just got another Mary Jane Watson series! Ashley Allen and Phil Noto send MJ to Hollywood for her latest role as a producer. She's also battling the Chameleon, but to be honest his type of villainy is probably pretty lightweight compared to the industry she's getting into.

• MAD SCIENCE DIVISION #1 - Dan Watters is back for another round this week on a new creator-owned series with artist Brian Level. Miyashi-Smith is a company that specializes in genetic engineering and bioweapons, including a department nicknamed the Mad Science Division. When new management arrives with a mission to gut the budget of the MSD with no understanding of how it operates, chaos ensues. A rather pointed sci-fi satire of DOGE.

• NO ONE ESCAPES THE DIALECTIC #1 - Speaking of pointed digs at US politics, Spencer Ackerman and Antonio Fuso take aim at ICE in this series that sees immigration enforcement outfit Special Naturalization Operations clash with mysterious vigilante The Dialectic.

• SATANIC PANIC #1 - A slasher is on the loose in a small American town in this thriller by Matt Miner and Clayton McCormack. A group of teens are trying to find out who the killer is, but the town is in the grip of the Satanic Panic, where rock music, Dungeons and Dragons and basically just everything about being a teenager has created a national hysteria. And a deep suspicion of teens.

• DUNGEONS & DRAGONS #1 - Speaking of the Devil's game, after a few years of minis, Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly and Ibraim Roberson launch a D&D ongoing. They've gone with the Forgotten Realms for a setting, and it features the iconic mage Mordenkainen.

• GHOST RIDER KUSHALA #1 - Reprinting the Marvel Infinity serial by B. Earl, Taboo, and Guillermo Sanna. Kushala is the Sorcerer Supreme of the 1800's who is also known as the Spirit Rider, a Ghost Rider who has controlled her spirit of vengeance.

• MARVEL MEOW / STRANGE SCALES #1 - Another digital comic reprint featuring the hero-adjacent cats and snakes of the Marvel Universe! Yes, that's a thing, and João Lemos and Nao Fuji will show you how.

And that's me done! And hey, Christmas is just 7 weeks away! Good grief...

Andrew.
