HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

• MIDNIGHT FANTASTIC FOUR #1 - Reed Richards learns a lesson the hard way: just because you can, doesn't mean you should. In his quest to uncover the secrets of the universe, he and his nearest and dearest are transformed in terrifying ways. A monstrous reinvention by Benjamin Percy and Kev Walker.

• MIDNIGHT SPIDER-MAN #1 - Oscorp is up to no good (whaaaat?) in its search for the secret of eternal life. Peter Parker is the victim of one such experiment, merged with a spider and granted strange powers. But he's not going to sit idly by and let Oscorp exploit his transformation to create more like him. Phillip Kennedy Johnson and ScieTronc are behind this one.

• MIDNIGHT X-MEN #1 - Last but by no means least, Jonathan Hickman returns to the X-Men along with artist Matteo Della Fonte. Rival empires of mutants and vampires live in uneasy opposition in New York City. But as various factions vie for control, war looms ever closer.

• DEMON #1 - The unique vision of James Harren is given full reign as both writer and artist in this fresh take on Kirby's Demon and his cursed alter ego, Jason Blood. When a new incursion of demons threatens the Earth, Blood must decide whether to loose the reins and set free the one creature with the strength to stop it: rise the demon Etrigan!

• JONAH HEX AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH #1 - From one horror-drenched antihero to another! Michael Walsh writes and draws a new chapter in the life of Jonah Hex: retirement. Hex has left his violent ways behind, but it turns out death and magic have a way of finding him, as sinister forces descend on the town he has made his home.

• BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES HALLOWEEN SPECIAL #1 - The years have gone by, but the legend of Samantha Strong still looms large over Woodbrook. She's the boogeyman of Woodbrook children's nightmares, and come Halloween, tales are told of her terrible deeds. Here is a collection of them, brought to you by the likes of Patrick Horvath, Jared Cullum, Che Grayson, James Tynion IV, Tony Fleecs, Dave Wachter, Matt Emmons and Tyler Boss.

• SABRINA #1 - Oni's Archie titles continue, with everyone's favourite teenage witch. Corinna Bechko and Kano begin a new chapter in Sabrina Spellman's life, set just after she has learned of her secret birthright. With Halloween approaching, spooky stuff starts to wreak havoc with high school studies!

• CONAN TIDES OF THE TYRANT KING #1 - Jim Zub and Jesús Merino kick off the latest Conan event. They thought he was dead, but that Thulsa Doom is a cheeky little fellow, and he's coming back with a vengeance.

• ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK: ESCAPE FROM CHICAGO #1 - Probably should have just called it Escape From Chicago, but I guess it's all about the brand recognition! Kyle Higgins and Val Rodrigues send Snake Plissken into the apocalyptic hellscape of Chicago where he's faced with the most insidious of dilemmas: basic human decency!

• DC'S QUOTH THE RAVEN...WHATEVER #1 - DC's latest seasonal special has a Halloween twist, with stories by Rebecca Mock, Dominike Stanton, Nina Vakueva, Chris Rosa, Patrick R. Young, Rosie Knight, Tini Howard, Francesco Tomaselli, J Bone, Noah Dao, Pop Mhan and Isaac Goodhart.

• SUNDER #1 - A little slice of anthropomorphic fantasy for you, courtesy of Pierre Alexandre Comtois. A young goat lives a cloistered life as the librarian in a monastary he has been forbidden to leave since he was taken in as a baby. But when a magical book arrives at the monastary, he emabraks on a quest to find its true owner.

And that's me done! Enjoy your spooky superheroes!
