The Gosh! Authority 08.11.23

Hello!

We've got a terrific week of events for you! This Friday, 6-7pm, we have the one-man comic industry that is Jeff Lemire (over for Thought Bubble) and spectacular artist Gabriel H. Walta (over just for us!) here to sign copies of the Phantom Road TP (along with any other stuff you may want to throw their way). Jeff will have to race off for his train at 7pm, so be sure to get here early! Details here.

But before that we have a double-header book launch this Wednesday, 7-9pm! Liam Cobb is here to celebrate the release of his new book from Breakdown Press, What Awaits Them. You can find all the details on that here.

But not only that, we'll also have Ferry Gouw here to launch his new Indonesian folk horror tale, Leftovers, at the exact same timeYou can get the details on that one here.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • PETROL HEAD #1 - 2000AD fans take note: stalwarts Rob Williams & Pye Parr are behind this new Image series that looks like a total blast. In a world where six domed cities hold what remains of the human race, a 12 year old girl and a misfit, has-been robot racer are on the run from the cops. Their goal? Only the salvation of humanity! If this is your kind of thing, let me tell you that's it's a very good version of your kind of thing.

  • PUNISHER #1 - Nature hates a void, so with Frank Castle missing, someone new steps up to take on the mantle of Marvel's premier anti-hero. David Pepose and Dave Wachter are going all-in on the action in this new series, with John Wick getting name-checked as a point of reference as we meet our now dispenser of vigilante justice. But there's a twist! He's blonde!

  • ZAWA + THE BELLY OF THE BEAST #1 - Greek writer/artist/very nice guy Michael Dialynas launches his new creator-owned series from Boom, an eco-fable with something to say about pollution, friendship and good food. Two kids manage to free Zawa, the guardian spirit, from her imprisonment, where she has been forced to eat industrial waste. Needless to say it hasn't been good for her mood. The siblings quickly learn that the only way to soothe Zawa's spirit is to keep her well fed with some home cooking. But nothing's ever that easy, of course.

  • THANOS #1 - Thanos is heading to Earth, but who's going to stop him getting what he wants? The Illuminati, that's who! The Marvel Superhero kind, not the Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson kind (sadly). Christopher Cantwell and Luca Pizzari choreograph this little cosmic dust-up.

  • SUPERMAN 78 THE METAL CURTAIN #1 - Return to the world of Christopher Reeve's Superman in a new mini that wades into the Cold War era. Turns out the USA wasn't the only landing place for debris from the planet Krypton. Now the Soviets have harnessed that power to take down the the Man of Steel. Robert Venditti and Gavin Guidry will crush the imperialist pig Superman!

  • WHAT IF DARK TOMB OF DRACULA #1 - I don't oiften highlight these What If one-shots as you all know the score by now. However I felt it's worth pointing this one out as it's written by Marv Wolfman himself (aka Mr Tomb of Dracula). Okay, so ToD without Gene Colan will never quite feel legit, but here's hoping David Cutler comes up with the goods.

And that's the first week of November done, friends!

Andrew.
