The Gosh! Authority 10.06.26

Hello!

readsjun26-600.jpg

It's Reads this Wednesday, 7-9pm, and we're discussing Emma Rios' wonderful book Anzuelo! Everyone is welcome, so come on down and tell us your thoughts (even if you didn't think it was wonderful!) Details here.

EVENT UPDATE: Please note that the previously announced double launch party for Ferry Gouw's Limbo and CROM's Bleed Ink has been postponed due to late-arriving books. Apologies for any iconvenience or disappointment this may cause. We're working with Ferry and CROM (and the shipping company) to organise a new date soon!

Okay, it's a big week and I'm low on time, so let's get this done!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • ABSOLUTE CATWOMAN #1 - Che Grayson, Scott Snyder and Bengal spin the Absolute Selina Kyle off into her own series. You can't be the greatest thief in the world without making a few enemies, and it looks like Selina's have caught up with her.

  • AVENGERS ARMAGEDDON #1 - The Red Hulk is on a bender of destruction, and it's up to the FF, the Avengers and Wolverine to put him down. Chip Zdarsky, Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar bring us the latest Marvel event.

  • BISHOP #1 - Everyone's favourite time-jumping lawman gets a new solo series thanks to Saladin Ahmed and Mario Santoro. And speaking of time-jumping, Bishop's deceased sister, Shard, makes the leap back to present day shortly before she is due to die on a deadly mission.

  • JAY & SILENT BOB JAYS OF FUTURE PAST #1 - Jay & Silent Bob have earned the ire of Doctor Doom, and the heroes of the Marvel Universe rally around to save their skins. A one-shot by Kevin Smith and Giuseppe Camuncoli which - I suspect - will have a few less weed jokes than they might otherwise do.

  • APE #1 - Rich Tommaso writes and draws his love letter to the earliest days of Mad Magazine, paying homage to the likes of Harvey Kurtzman, Will Elder, Jack Davis and Wally Wood.

  • M1 MONSTER RACING LEAGUE #1 - A new ongoing series from Robert Windom, Lily Windom and Jae Lee, set in a near-future Japan. Dev is 17, with a fierce need for speed. She moves to Japan and joins an underground racing league where the key to victory is mutation, and the champions are literal monsters.

  • GODZILLAS MONSTERPIECE THEATRE THE ODYSSEY #1 - Time for the Big G to stomp through the pages of Homer's Odyssey in this one-shot by Frank Tieri and Ilias Kyriazis. Tom Scioli's Godzilla vs Robin Hood story continues in the back-up.

  • M.A.S.K. #1 - This one's for you, 80's kids. The super-spy supercars are back as a part of the Energon Universe, thanks to Dan Watters and Pye Parr.

  • MONSTERS IN LOVE A PRIDE ANTHOLOGY #1 - A bumper anthology of monstrous Pride stories by the likes of James Tynion IV, Jadzia Axelrod, Vita Ayala, Zoe Tunnell, Sina Grace, Josh Trujillo, Claudia Aguirre, Tench, and more!

  • SKATE ALI #1 - Sam Humphries, Kelly Sue DeConnick and Natacha Bustos jump into a future where a rebellious young woman defies a skate boarding ban to ride the streets of LA at night. She falls in with a gang who use their skills to fight the power, and must make a decision to play it safe, or put it all on the line.

  • TARZAN BEYOND #1 - The Lord of the Jungle fights Blackbeard the pirate in this new series by Steve Orlando & Renato Guedes. Blackbeard's hitting the jungle in search of an elixir that grants immortality, apparently. Bloody pirates, never satisfied with what they've got.

  • TANKERS VS ANCIENT ALIENS #1 - The Tankers are a bunch of mechanised soldiers sent back in time to postpone the asteroid strike that killed the dinosaurs. More dinosaurs = more oil for the future. Small wrinkle though: aliens! Big action stuff from Robert Venditti, Trevor Hairsine and Tomás Giorello.

And that's it, comic fans! See you next week!

Best,
Andrew.
