The Gosh! Authority 12.08.20

Hey all, it's a <klaxon> LATE SHIPPING WEEK!

Yep, things were a little late getting on a plane this week, so the delivery will be arriving on Wednesday to go out on the shelves same day. In effect this means things won't be out until lunchtime at the earliest, and probably best if you give us a call before making the journey in.

If you've not looked at the webstore recently, you may have missed some useful updates for your online GN shopping needs:

  • the vast majority of our book stock is now available to browse and order online. Honestly, you can graze through there for hours. I recommend entering random words in the search function and seeing what pops up.
  • there is now a New This Week category so you can see all the books released within the last week.
  • Kids picturebooks have now been divided into Storytime and Educational categories.
  • Kids graphic novels now have age recommendation bandings to help out folks who are unfamiliar with the medium but want to get something for a younger reader: All AgesAge 8-12 and Age 13+. Note that these aren't hard and fast ratings, just general guidance for those that would like it.
  • You can now register your email address on the product page of out of stock items for an email notification when that item comes back into stock.
  • As well as gift vouchers for in-store use, you can buy webstore-only gift certificates for any value you choose which are directly sent to the lucky recipient.

We're constantly tweaking and updating, so keep checking back and do let us know. Also, drop us a line if there are any features you would like to see. And do please let your friends know about the webstore: we really need all the support we can get right now!

And on to the comics! Funny old week. Not a big one, but you've got Death Metal #3 and Empyre #5 in there. Only a few new things worth highlighting, so here they are, the:

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • SEVEN SECRETS #1 - Tom Taylor & Daniele Di Nicuolo new book from Boom which has been garnering a lot of heat (of both the adaptation and speculative kinds). A hidden order guards seven powerful secrets which could change the course of history. But after an attempt is made to steal the secrets, the order realises they're not as hidden as they would like, and the future of the world is in peril. Fun idea, and we like seeing Taylor stretch his writing wings outside the big two!

  • BIG GIRLS #1 - The Big Girls, a group of 300-foot tall women dedicated to battling giant monsters that threaten humanity. If you're not on board with that description alone, we can't help you. Jason Howard (of Trees fame) writes and draws on this one, and it looks like a blast.

  • CRUEL SUMMER HC - A lovely hardcover collection of Criminal #1 & #5-12, where a fateful summer for Teeg and Ricky Lawless becomes a tragic tale of fathers and sons. No extra story pages here, but there's a bunch of behind-the-scenes material in the back, and Sean always does a hell of a job designing these hardcovers.

  • LOIS LANE AND THE FRIENDSHIP CHALLENGE TP - The team of Grace Ellis (Lumberjanes) and Brittney Williams (Goldie Vance) join the DC younger readers line with this Lois Lane OGN. It's a precarious balance of social media, fame and friendship as teenage Lois tries to become an internet sensation.

And that, my friends, is that!
