The Gosh! Authority 13.07.22
Hello!
Big one this Saturday: the one and only Bryan Talbot will be in-store signing copies of The Legend of Luther Arkwright from 1-2pm! That's right, 23 years on from Heart of Empire we're getting an all-new standalone Luther Arkwright story! Get all the details (and the chance to pre-order your copy) here.
Due to shipping delays there are no new Marvel or IDW titles in the UK this week. They will be coming with next week's delivery, which - given that includes the kick-off of AXE and a new Daredevil #1 - will be an absolute monster! Bit of a tiddler this week, though, but still some good readin'!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- DARK CRISIS WORLDS WITHOUT A JUSTICE LEAGUE SUPERMAN #1 - In the wake of Pariah's actions against the Justice League, this one-shot takes us to a world where Superman lives in contentment as a hero and father. It's a world where Jon Kent didn't age prematurely, and is instead a young teen sidekick to his dad (with a decidedly Robin-like costume). But of course the real attraction here is that the creative team on this book are Tom King and Chris Burnham, a commendably top-drawer line-up for what could have been a throw-away tie-in. Plus as a bonus there's an Aquaman back-up by Brandon Thomas and Fico Ossio.
- ONE EIGHT HUNDRED GHOSTS TP - One of last year's self-published triumphs (we sold a TONNE of these) gets a book treatment thanks to Fantagraphics Underground (their direct market-only imprint). G. Davis Cathcart brings you the indie sci-fi heist comic you didn't know you needed. A group of art-thieves astrally project through time to steal the intellectual property of future villains, repurposing it in the present day to negate their creation of it, robbing them of the platform to commit their evil deeds. Daft and brilliant.
- ABOVE SNAKES #1 - A supernatural western from the minds behind The Few and Thumbs, Sean Lewis and Hayden Sherman. A man named Dirt journeys across a desert with only a talking vulture for company and just one thing on his mind: vengeance! A good-looking book that wallows in and subverts the tropes of westerns and revenge tales.
- IMPACT WINTER #1 - A one-shot prequel to an original Audible drama, written by its creator Travis Beacham and drawn by Stephen Green. A comet has struck the Earth, plunging it into darkness and unleashing an age of vampires. Small bands of resistance fighters keep hope alive, including the group with which Darcy finds herself. Fighting from a ruined castle in the middle of England, Darcy will discover if she has what it takes to survive in this brutal new world.
- FLAVOR GIRLS #1 (OF 3) - Loic Locatelli-Kournwsky brings us something like a cross between Captain Planet and Sailor Moon in this all-ages series from Boom. A young woman looking to work with the UN finds herself entangled with the Flavour Girls, the sacred fruit guardians of Earth.
And that's it, pals! See you next week (when there will be considerably more!)
Andrew.
