The Gosh! Authority 13.11.24

Hello!

It's Thought Bubble week, as so of course we have a couple of great signings lined up to celebrate! This Wednesday, 6-7pm, the lovely Michael Dianylas will be stopping by on his way up to Harrogate to sign copies of the first issue of Wynd The Power of the Blood, the latest chapter of his YA collaboration with James Tynion IV. Plus we've got a nice stack of the TP of his own project Zawa & the Belly of the Beast. Details here.

And then next Monday, 6-7pm, Emma Rios will be stopping over on her return journey to Spain to sign copies of her brand new OGN Anzuelo! Get the details on that one here.

Not to overlook the fact that Reads, the monthly graphic novel reading group, will also be meeting this week! Come for the Michael Dialynas signing on Wednesday, stay for Reads! The group will be meeting from 7-9pm, discussing Michael DeForge's Heaven No Hell. Should be a good chat! Details here.

And I'd be remiss not to tease our Best of 2024 lists for adults and kids! All things going to plan, coming next week!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • ANZUELO HC - Emma Rios writes and draws this environmental fable which sees the seas rising, changing everything it takes into its embrace. The lives of three children are transformed and they find new meaning in a new world. A passion project for Rios which showcases her usual dream-like art, only enhanced through a masterful use of watercolours. A unique, beautiful book!

  • SCREAM 40TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL - Just when you thought the horror anthology season was done, here comes a 40th celebration for what 12 year old me thought was the Greatest British Comic Ever Made. Four tales of spooky joy from Alex Paknadel, Vv Glass, Anna Readman, Torunn Gronbekk, Alejandro Aragon and Emily Schnall, including old favourites the Thirteenth Floor and the Dracula File!

  • GI JOE #1 - The big payoff for those Joe-adjacent miniseries is here at last as the team collectively known as GI Joe comes together to fight the menace of COBRA. Joshua Williamson and Tom Reilly return to launch the two-punch of the Energon Universe, with a bunch of familiar faces, and a brand new character. That latter bit in a licenced book for a property of this size probably means these won't last long on the shelves, so let us know if you want one!

  • PSYLOCKE #1 - Alyssa Wong and Vincenzo Carratù take Kwannon out for a bloody jaunt through the underworld of the Marvel Universe. Her mission is to protect mutants by any means necessary, especially if those necessary means include, like, swords and stuff.

  • BLACK LIGHTNING #1 - Black Lightning has been appointed as a point man in the community on behalf of the Justice League. His job is to find new metahumans and help them learn to safely use their powers. Nice idea, but the Masters of Disaster have other plans, and even his own daughter is struggling with new powers she can't control. Brandon Thomas and Fico Ossio launch the new adventures of Jefferson Pierce!

  • ARCBOUND #1 - Scott Snyder, Frank Tieri and Ryan Smallman team up with actor Tom Hardy (who came up with the concept) for a sci fi series. In a future where humankind has moved to the stars, leaving behind a barren Earth, and humanity and technology have blurred together, a soldier learns a secret that leads to him questioning everything.

  • CALAVERA PI #1 - Juan Calavera was a PI on the streets of 1925 LA, fighting for justice in the parts of town the police didn't bother with. "Was", because he was shot in the gut and left to die, and die he did. But now, 5 years later, he's back, summoned by a colleague on the Day of the Dead. The clock is ticking before his soul returns to the underworld, so he needs to help solve a kidnapping, and, if he can squeeze it in, maybe even find out who killed him. An intriguing looking book by writer and artist Marco Finnegan.

  • STRING #1 - A new supernatural thriller by Paul Tobin & Carlos Olivares. Yoon-Suk sees ethereal strings connecting people: blue for those who are sexual partners, and black for murderers and their intended victims. She's parlayed this ability into a career as an investigator, but one days she wakes to find a black string connected to her. But will she be killer or victim?

  • POWER RANGERS PRIME #1 - Melissa Flores and Michael YG launch a completely new era for the Power Rangers, untied to any previous continuity.

And that's it! Until next time, pals!

Andrew.
