The Gosh! Authority 14.06.23
Hello!
A reminder that this Friday sees the launch party of Spider-Man India #1, with writer Nikesh Shukla! Head on down from 7-9pm and help celebrate the release, and have a drink on us. Details here.
Before we get into the rest of the comics, two titles I highlighted last week because they were on ship lists are actually shipping this week: Sins of the Salton Sea #1 and You've Been Cancelled #1. Excuse my frazzled brain!
Solid week, with one big hitter in particular. Let's get to it, shall we?
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- NIGHT FEVER HC - Always an event when we get a new Brubaker & Phillips collection, especially when it's an all-new property. Night Fever tells the story of Jonathan Webb, an American in Europe who wanders the streets at night with a mysterious new friend who has a taste for violence. But wouldn't you believe it, things get nasty! And don't forget, we'll have Sean AND Jacob Phillips here to sign copies on Saturday 1st July,1-2pm! Details here.
- SPIDER-MAN INDIA #1 (OF 4) - And of course the first issue of the new Spider-Man India mini as well, written by Nikesh Shukla and drawn by Abhishek Malsuni. Pavitr is back on the streets of his universe's Mumbai after the events of End of the Spider-Verse, and it looks like he's about to get his very own Lizard.
- VOID RIVALS #1 - Did you hear the one about Oblivion Song creators Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici launching a new "shared universe" sci fi epic and then the week before it was released it turned out to be the Image Comics debut of the Transformers and GI Joe? Well you have now!
- COMICS JOURNAL YEARBOOK BEST OF 2022 - All the best interviews, essays and reviews from the print and and online versions of the venerable Journal for 2022 gathered together in one handy magazine.
- BLACK PANTHER #1 - An all-new #1 with an all new creative team in the form of Eve L. Ewing and Chris Allen. T'Challa has been deposed, and takes to fighting crime in the cities of Wakanda in this back to basics, street level relaunch.
- BATTLE CHASERS #10 - With a 22 year gap between issues, I guess Battle Chasers is now the official "most-delayed" record holder? Yes, it's the return of Joe Madureira's fantasy series that really did influenced an entire generation of video game designers. Mads isn't on the art anymore, shifting back to writing duties and passing the art to Ludo Lullabi, who's definitely on the same style page. I'm going to assume there will be a "Previously in..." page for this one.
- MARVELS VOICES PRIDE #1 - It's Marvel's annual Pride anthology, with LGBTQIA+ stories from Steve Foxe, Shad Petosky, Sarah Gailey, Marieke Nijkamp, Stephanie Williams, H.E. Edgmon, Katherine Locke, Stephen Byrne, Joanna Estep, Roberta Ingranata, Rosi Kämpe, Pablo M. Collar, Lorenzo Susi, Bailie Rosenlund & Hector Barros.
- THE SICKNESS #1 - A period horror set in the '50s and '60s where illness and murder intersect, all observed by a mysterious figure.Lonnie Nadler and Jenna Cha are behind this genre tale with a distinctly indie twist.
- KLIK KLIK BOOM #1 (OF 5) - A mute assassin who only communicates through polaroids heads to NYC to avenge the killing of her grandfather, a doomsday prepper who raised her isolated from the rest of society. Sounds simple enough. This one's by Doug Wagner & Douglas Dabbs.
- HAUNT YOU TO THE END #1 - A ghost story with an apocalyptic twist by Ryan Cady & Andrea Mutti. In a near future of extreme climate change and geopolitical upheaval, a group of various supernatural experts and a squad of soldiers try to prove the existence of life after death.
- DEAD BY DAYLIGHT #1 (OF 4) - The popular asymmetric co-op horror survival game gets a prequel comic spin-off by Nadia Shammas & Dillon Snook. And yes, it includes an item code for the game.
And that's it! Get stuck in!
Andrew.
