Then on Friday, 7-9pm, Ollie Sylvester will be here for the launch of his new Cicada Book release The Grand Bug Hotel! A lovely book that will be even more lovely with a signature! Details here.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • CAPTAIN BRITAIN 50TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL #1 - Pop the cork on that bottle of bubbles you've been saving and roll out the cucumber sandwiches for the golden jubilee of everyone's favourite aristocrats, the Braddocks! Except for that reality-warping one, he's a wrong 'un. An anthology of stories starring Brian and Betsy by Chris Claremont, Alan Davis, Paul Davidson, Dan Abnett & Kelsey Ramsay!

  • WOLVERINE PARADISE #1 - Wolverine hits Miami in this mini-series written and drawn by Dan Panosian. Alongside Alison Blair, the Dazzler herself, Logan gets entangled in underworld shenanigans, which will no doubt look gorgeous given Panosian's talent. All I hope is that at some point they head out into the everglades in one of those boats with the big fan on the back. Those are great.

  • BATMAN BAD SEEDS STREETS OF GOTHAM #1 - A street-level anthology spotlighting the ordinary citizens of Gotham as they struggle to survive amidst the Bad Seeds chaos. Matt Fraction, Mariko Tamaki, Steve Lieber, Brian Ching and Gretel Lusky lend their talents to this one.

  • 12-FOOT SKELETON #1 - A kid going through cancer treatment and an outcast goth girl find themselves thrown together as they battle a giant lawn skeleton that has come to life and is rampaging through their neighbourhood. A suitably Amblin-esque Halloween treat from Aaron Campbell, Tim Seeley and Ben Templesmith.

  • NOVA RETURN OF THE RINGS #1 - Nova (that is Sam Alexander Nova) is contending with the fallout of the 10 Rings of Power (previously jettisoned into deep space) having breached their confinement. A one-shot by Josh Trujillo, Rafael Loureiro and Bruno Abdias.

  • DOOM ALL-IN-ONE #1 - Ahhh...the old dilemma of the all-splash-page comic: it's only going to take me 5 minutes to read, tops, but it's also a great showcase for the artist and big superhero action. Well, make up your mind, True Believer, as Doctor Doom battles Mephisto for his mother's soul across 50 widescreen (aka landscape) pages in this one-shot by Al Ewing and Alessandro Cappuccio.

    • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN AMAZING VISIONS #1 - A collection of 25 Lee Bermejo variant covers that tell the tale of Spidey's long and storied past. While it doesn't go to quite the storytelling lengths of Bermejo's similar Detective Comics covers, the one-shot does include artist commentary and historical context.

    • YOU’LL NEVER LEAVE THIS PLACE ALIVE #1 - A new horror series by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly and Heather Vaughan. A group of five friends have grown up together in a closed community, raised to be the best of the best. But when one of them dies, some of the truth of their upbringing is revealed, and they'll need to work to together build the full picture and escape before it's too late.

      • VENOM #1 - Charles Soule and Tommaso Bianchi take it back to basics as Eddie Brock and Venom are reunited. A chance to jump on board if you fancy a little symbiote in your life.

      • HAWKMOON THE MAD GOD'S AMULET - Get your Michael Moorcock on with this adaptation by Jérôme Le Gris and Benoît Dellac. A touch of dark sci-fantasy amidst all the horror!

      • ICE CREAM MAN CHOCOLATE VANILLA TWIST #1 - A reprint with a difference. Head back to where it all began, but now in black and white! With new lettering! And a new story! And a decoder which reveals secret messages in the original cover! By the usual team of W. Maxwell Prince and Martín Morazzo.

And that's it! I'm off to Australia for the next two weeks, and yet by some mysterious means I'll still be the author on both week's blogs! How does that work? Maaaagic....

      Andrew.
