The Gosh! Authority 22.09.21

Hello!

Just going to kick of with a quick reminder to keep an eye on our Recycled Books section on the webstore. We've recently had a massive influx of new books, many of which are out of print and difficult to get. We've only got single copies of most of these, so first come, first served!

Okay, enough shilling. Time for...well...more shilling, I guess. But this time for fun new stuff!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • FRONTIERSMAN #1 - A series billed as a kind of cross between Green Arrow and Concrete, this looks like a curious, layered beast. Retired superhero Frontiersman is coaxed out of retirement seeking to protect the redwood forest. His optimistic desire to help confront the environmental crises of the modern world clash with the world-weary cynicism of his former allies, presenting a nuanced look at the state of the world today. Patrick Kindlon and Marco Ferrari tell the tale.

  • DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE #1 - Stephen Strange is about to bite the big one, but what effects will this have on the wider Marvel Universe? Who has he left the task of being the world's mystical protectors, what magical defenses will be undone by his passing, and who killed him in the first place? A five-issue mini will reveal all, thanks to Jed McKay and Lee Garbett.

  • ANTHRAX AMONG THE LIVING GN - More than just your standard music GN cash grab, Anthrax Among the Living sees the members of the titular thrash band heavily involved in putting together this celebration of their album (surprise) Among the Living. And quite the line-up it is too: the anthology, which tours through the nine-song tracklist for nine short stories, includes such luminaries as Grant Morrison, Gerard and Mikey Way, Mark A Nelson and Corey Taylor (from Slipknot), to name a few. Of particular note is a tale based on their Judge Dredd-themed track I Am the Law written by band member Scott Ian and drawn by Chris Weston!

  • LIGHTS PLANETS PEOPLE HC - Writer and performer Molly Naylor teams with Gosh fave Lizzy Stewart for an adaptation of Naylor's acclaimed play LIGHTS! PLANETS! PEOPLE! courtesy of the good folks at Avery Hill. An acclaimed astronomer must reconcile the successes and failures of her life, both personal and professional.

  • X-MEN THE ONSLAUGHT REVELATION #1 - Spinning out of the events of Way of X, Onslaught takes control of the most powerful minds in Krakoa. Only a small team of mutants dedicated to saving the soul of the fledgling mutant nation are left to stand against it. Way of X writer Simon Spurrier pulls all the threads together with the help of artist Bob Quinn.

  • AQUAMAN THE BECOMING #1 - Former Titan / Aqualad Jackson Hyde gets a 6 issue mini thanks to Brandon Thomas and Diego Olortegui. Accused of a terrorist act in Atlantis, Jackson needs to prove his innocence and demonstrate his worthiness of the mantle of Aquaman or lose the life he has worked so hard to build.

  • SUICIDE SQUAD KING SHARK #1 - On leave from the Suicide Squad, King Shark is roped into a tournament of champions organised by his father - the God of Sharks.Tim Seeley and Scott Kolins bring some of the anarchic energy that made the James Gunn SS film such fun to watch.

And that's it for this week. Pretty modest one! See you next time, Gosh-ers.

Andrew.
