HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • MIND MGMT NEW & IMPROVED #1 - I don't think I'm being too far out of line to say that Mind MGMT remains Matt Kindt's most satisfying, complex works. The mind-bending saga of psychic espionage agents was an absolute favourite for me when it was coming out, so I'm very interested to see what Kindt has up his sleeve for this new series, which he's once again writing and drawing. We're 10 years on, and the surviving agents have all gone to ground. But two detectives investigating a series of murders begin to piece together a disturbing pattern: someone is killing old Mind MGMT operatives.

  • ULTIMATE UNIVERSE FINALE #1 - It all blows up here! Peach Momoko, Bryan Hill, Chris Condon, Deniz Camp, Jonathan Hickman, Alessandro Cappuccio and Juan Frigeri unite to put a cap on the Ultimate Universe after the events of Ultimate Endgame. Bye bye (for now)!

  • UNIVERSAL MONSTERS BLOOD OF THE WOLF MAN #1 - Of all the Universal Monsters, it's the Wolf Man that I love the best, even though it always seems notoriously difficult to do werewolf stories justice. Did you see that Leigh Whannell Wolf Man movie? Yeesh. Anyway, Joshua Williamson and Leomacs are taking another punt on contemporising our furry friend, as a young, party-loving student is struck with the curse after surviving a horrifying massacre.

  • X-MEN OUTBACK #1 - Back when the X-Men moved to Australia after the Fall of the Mutants, I wasn't happy. I thought the Siege Perilous setup was daft and, as a young New Zealander, I was incensed that the X-Men had moved to Australia, of all placesAnyway, now I'm in my mid-50s, I of course have a misty-eyed nostalgia for that period, awash with warm fuzzies whenever an issue of that period pops up. So I'm quite looking forward to this throwback mini set in their Outback days, courtesy of Steve Orlando and Stephen Segovia. Fair dinkum, cobber!

  • SUMMER OF SUPERGIRL SPECIAL #1 - Just in time for the film release this week, a one-shot anthology of Supergirl stories by the likes of Sophie Campbell, Gail Simone, Mark Waid, Belén Ortega, Cian Tormey and Emma Kubert. Might have a certain Last Czarnian popping up in there as well.

  • EYE COLLECTOR #1 - A weird, ancient creature is drawn to Earth, where it makes a wicked deal with two parents: all their dreams will come true, at the cost of their children's eyes. A bit of freaky horror from Jonathan Ball and G. M. B. Chomichuk.

  • BLUDWIRE #1 - Two pleasure bots throw off the shackles of their owners and go on the run. It's like a robotic Thelma & Louise, but with more romance and many more guns, and comes to you from Paul Allor and Ermitis Blanco.

And that's all I have for you this week!
