And happy birthday to all you leap year babies!

Two events this week, the first being a launch for Polar Vortex, veteran cartoonist Denise Dorrance's impressive debut graphic novel about having to care for a parent with dementia. Details here.

And then it's Lucy Sullivan's launch party for the new Avery Hill edition of Barking! Lucy was supposed to launch this book with us back in 2020, but it was lost in the pandemic, so it's lovely to be able to do it justice at last! Details here.

It's not a bad week on the whole, but pretty tiny for new releases. Let's have a look...

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN #1 - The premiere magazine of black and white barbaric action returns! Titan are relaunching SSOC as a magazine-sized anthology featuring the big Cimmerian bloke, plus some of Robert E. Howard's other creations to boot. This issue has a Conan story by John Arcudi and Max Von Fafner, a Solomon Kane story by Patch Zircher and even a bit of prose by Jim Zub!

  • SPIDER-PUNK ARMS RACE #1 - Journey back to the world of Hobie Brown and pals in a new mini-series. As they begin to rebuild society through the power of punk rock, Justin Hammer and Dr Otto Octavius introduce a new menace to Earth-138: Spider-Slayers! Cody Ziglar & Justin Mason hit the stage once again.

  • WOMEN OF MARVEL #1 - Celebrate the super-powered women of Marvel with the creative women of Marvel in the latest installment of this annual anthology. Featuring Celeste Bronfman, Erica Schultz, Sarah Rees Brennan, Arielle Jovellanos, Giada Belviso, Leila Leiz, Lydia Rasero and the one and only Gail Simone!

  • WHAT IF... VENOM #1 - Ditching the recent one-off format, this mini-series tracks the Venom symbiote in anlaternate reality where it didn't just settle on a single host, but hopped its way across the Marvel universe looking for the perfect bodily home. Leinil Francis Yu & Romulo Fajardo Jr. get their alien goo on.

  • GIANT-SIZED FANTASTIC FOUR #1 - Fabian Nicieza & Creees Lee take the FF to Atlantis, as they step up to cover for an imprisoned Namor when the undersea kingdom comes under attack.
