It's a double-punch of events this week, starting Friday evening with our Drink'n'Draw, in association with Broken Frontier, and featuring special guests Fidelia Schlegl and Francis Todd, alongsie artist-in-residence Mark Stafford! Details here.

Then on Saturday from 12pm - 4pm we're hosting some of the heavy hitters of UK kids comics for our inaugural Summer Kids Festival! Jamie Smart (Bunny vs Monkey), Luke Pearson (Hilda), Tor Freeman (Boss of the Underworld) and Hugh Raine (Beano) will each have a one hour signing slot through the afternoon! Details here.  

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • QUEEN IN BLACK #1 - One of Marvel's main summer events kicks off, as Hela - now adopting the mantle of Queen in Black - hits Earth with an army of symbiotes. Sound familiar? It sounds familiar to Knull as well, and he's not too thrilled about this new Queen. It's baddie versus baddie, with the son of Venom and pals caught in the middle!

  • QUEEN IN BLACK HELA #1 - A one-shot that's basically Queen in Black #1.5, as Al Ewing and Carlos Magno tell the tale of The Queen in Black, and how she came to be. Which is to say, what the heck has Hela been up to lately?

  • QUEEN IN BLACK DEFENDERS OF LIGHT AND DARK #1 - Beta Ray Bill decides the best defence is a good offence, as he leads a misfit team against the Queen in Black and Knull in this spin-off mini by Tom Waltz and Zé Carlos.

  • PREDATOR VS PLANET OF THE APES #1 - I can't help but love this idea. Greg Pak and Alan Robinson bash the cinematic franchises together as those damn dirty apes fight off a Yautja hunter. Plus there's some humans running around as well. For relatability, I guess?

  • JUSTICE LEAGUE KNIGHT VISION SPECIAL #1 - Mark Waid, Joshua Williamson and Miguel Mendonça set up the next year of Justice League stories with this one-shot. Batman and Lex Luthor team up to take on new threats that have stepped into the supervillain power vacuum created by the Justice League's recent amnesty.

  • ROCKET RACCOON ROCKET REWIND #1 - A one-shot anthology of Rocket Raccoon tales, including a reprint of his first appearance by the duo of Bill Mantlo and the late, great Keith Giffen. Other contributors include Christos Gage, J. M. DeMatteis, MacKenzie Cadenhead, Enid Balám, Keith Giffen and Shawn McManus.

  • PATRON #1 - Christian Ward pops his writing hat on for this collaboration with artist John Pearson. A scheming, murderous patron of the arts has the tables turned on him when his latest plot to milk the "tragic" death of one of his favoured artists uncovers unexpected secrets and a dangerous opponent.

      • DIRT BENEATH THE DEVIL #1 - The heirs to a cruel business magnate make a journey to claim their inheritence in this horror-Western by Dan Panosian and David Ferracci. Among them is June, who is quickly beginning to realise that her dead father's evil might be more than just the earthly kind.

      • NANO #1 - Matt Kindt, Alexandra Grant and Natacha Bustos spin a tale of future secret agents infiltrating a private megacity run on prison labour. Undercover as a happy working couple, things soon prove too dangerous for them to maintain their cover for long.

      • DC'S HAWK-GIRL SUMMER #1 - DC's latest seasonal special is all about those hot summer days (like we need any reminder). Featuring stories by Cavan Scott, Josh Trujillo, Andre R. Frattino, Meghan Fitzmartin, Dacy Lim, Trick Weekes, Ramón Pérez, Cathy Le, Siobhan Chiffon, Andrew Drilon, Meghan Hetrick, Rafael Loureiro and Rowan MacColl.

      • GREATEST AMERICAN HERO #1 - I have many fond memories of watching Greatest American Hero as a kid, including an episode with the standard 80s adventure program story trope of "There's a paranormal thing! Haha, turns out it wasn't really a paranormal thing! But wait...maybe there really was a paranormal thing all along?" (See also the MacGyver episode with Bigfoot.) Anyway, I digress. Frustrated by a lack of a proper ending to the show? This new series seeks to remedy that. Not familiar with the show? I'm not going to lie: you might want to buy Queen in Black instead.
