The Gosh! Authority 01.02.23
Hello!
We've got an exciting, event-filled Saturday coming up on the 4th! First, from 1-2pm, we've got Paul Rainey here for a signing in celebration of the D&Q release of his graphic novel Why Don't You Love Me (with details here).
Then, as a last-minute addition, we've got the amazing Patrick Kyle here from 7-9pm to launch his new book Baby, from Breakdown Press! You can get the details for that one here.
And don't forget that our annual sale returns this Wednesday 1st February until Wednesday 14th February. For two weeks we'll have boxes of reduced graphic novels on our smaller upstairs table marked down to silly prices. Plus we'll be doing 50% off all marked £5 or less back issues, so time to fill those gaps!
Fairly solid week this time around, so let's keep this snappy!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- ALMIGHTY #1 - I never read Edward Laroche's previous series The Warning, but having read a preview of thise I might just go back and check it out. His new one is a tale of a post-apocalyptic USA, where an environmental catastrophe has brought civilisation to its knees. Our protagonist has been tasked with going into the worst parts of this world to find and bring home a young girl who has been abducted. Looks to be an enjoyably gritty 5-issue mini.
- WHERE MONSTERS LIE #1 - A fun looking (for old horror junkies like me anyway) new series by Kyle Starks and Piotr Kowalski. Turns out when all those monstrous killers of the likes we see in movies aren't out on killing sprees, they're living together in a gated community in the middle of nowhere. Slasher survivor Connor Hayes has found that location, and now he's looking for revenge.
- SILVER SURFER GHOST LIGHT #1 - The Surfer is back in a series that introduces an all-new character, Ghost Light, who is tied to the history of good ol' Norrin Radd. John Jennings and Valentine De Landro are at the wheel on this one.
- STAR WARS SANA STARROS #1 - The captain of the Volt Cobra gets her own title in this new series by Justina Ireland and Pere Pérez. Starros was an early fave from the Jason Aaron run on Star Wars, introducing herself as Han Solo's wife (it's complicated). She's popped up since with everyone from Dr Aphra (also complicated) and Lando Calrissian (not complicated), and now gets top billing at last!
- DC POWER A CELEBRATION #1 - A Black History Month celebration of DC's black heroes, writers and artists in this pleasantly chunky anthology, including the excellent N.K. Jemisin back on Jo Mullein.
- DC'S HARLEY QUINN ROMANCES #1 - The latest seasonal anthology from DC, with Harley Quinn at the helm for Valentine's Day. Expect plenty of tongue firmly in cheek. Err...in more ways than one, I guess.
- FLASH ONE MINUTE WAR SPECIAL #1 - A one-shot tie-in to the Flash mini-event that's going on right now by Jeremy Adams & Fernando Pasarin. Adams is causing the first sales tick upward I've seen on the Flash in quite some time, so he must be doing something right!
- BLOODLINE DAUGHTER OF BLADE #1 - A five-issue mini starring Blade's daughter, Brielle Brooks, as new vampiric-powered hero Bloodline. Danny Lore writes, Karen S. Darboe draws.
- LAZARUS PLANET LEGENDS REBORN #1 - Another LP one-shot anthology, this time joining Nightwing, the Question, Firestorm (yay!), Raven, Harley Quinn and some new faces as they deal with the fallout of the Lazarus Volcano.
- BATMAN LEGENDS OF GOTHAM #1 - Andy Diggle & Karl Mostert bring us a one shot starring Red Hood & the Outsiders, or more accurately, Red Hood vs the Outsiders.
- BLOOD TREE #1 - Peter J. Tomasi (an extremely underrated writer in my opinion) and Maxim Simic go a little Silence of the Lambs on this one. Two NYPD detectives are on the hunt foe the Angel Killer, a sociopathic serial murderer who seeks to purify society.
- BREATH OF SHADOWS #1 - A musician in the 60's heads to South America to find a miracle cure for his addicition, but instead helps to unleash a potentially world-ending horror. From the Sea of Sorrows and Road of Bones team of Rich Douek and Alex Cormack.
- BLACK TAPE #1 - Did you know that heavy metal music is a path to THE DEVIL? Well, deceased rock god Jack King certainly did, and his final unreleased album might be the key to occultists opening a doorway to hell. Which is unfortunate for Jack's widow Cindy, who stands between the master tapes and murderous satanists. Sounds like a fun ride from Dan Panosian & Dalibor Talajić.
And that's that!
