The Gosh! Authority 08.07.26
Hello!

Our old pal and colleague Jules Scheele is here this Friday, 7-9pm, to celebrate the launch of his new graphic novel Orlando, an adaptation of the Virginia Woolfe classic. The Avery Hill-published book comes with a limited Gosh! exclusive bookplate, so be sure to get one while they last! Details here.

Then on Friday night from 6.30pm it's a bonus Drink'n'Draw in association with Broken Frontier and ARC Festival! Special guests Niall Breen and Matt Seneca will be joined by our (also special) cartoonist-in-residence Mark Stafford. Details here.

Speaking of ARC, this Saturday and Sunday sees the debut of this exciting new festival (that we just happen to be one of the sponsors for). Two days of cutting-edge contemporary comics, featuring publishers such as Breakdown Press, Hollow Press, Mansion Press, PEOW, and many, many more. Our Greg will be there tabling for Gosh, so go say hi! Details here.
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

- FANTASTIC FOUR FIRST FOES #1 - Charles Soule and Mark Buckingham return to the in-universe comic world of Fantastic Four First Steps. Time to delve into the origins of Shalla Bal, the mysterious herald of Galactus known as the Silver Surfer!

- CLAYFACE CELEBRITY DIRT #1 - Liking the look of the upcoming Clayface film, so I'm unusually excited for this mini-series by writer Jude Ellison S. Doyle and artist Fran Galán. Basil Carlo is the shapeshifting villain Clayface, recently broken out of Arkham Asylum and looking to re-establish himself as a Hollywood star. Trouble is, there's already a Basil Carlo topping the box office. What the heck?

- VAMPYRATES #1 - The world is cloaked in perpetual darkness and vampires rule the roost. Into this alternate history sails Empress Nira, stowing aboard the ship of notorious pirate Captain Akeyo to escape the pressures of rule. Can she find her sea legs? And if everyone is a vampire, is this really just a pirate story? These questions and more will be answered by Fred van Lente (nice to see him doing more comics) and Luca Pizzari.

- DINGOLIATH #1 - A one-shot from Robert Venditti, Brockton McKinney and Manix Abrera, introducing a whole new monster universe in Abrera's idiosyncratic style. When the law comes knocking at a drug kingpin's door, Dingoliath answers in bloody fashion.

- OPERATION IRON COFFIN #1 - Kenny Porter and Tyrell Cannon introduce you to Dracula: good guy! Resurrected at the height of WWII and looking to redeem himself, Drac joins forces with the British to take down a Nazi train which holds a secret weapon that could turn the tide in Hitler's favour.

- STAR-CROSSED #1 - What happens when the galaxy's greatest thieves are hunted by the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter? Mark Millar and Corrado Mastantuono return to the world of Space Bandits to answer that question, as Thena Khole and Cody Blue find their post-heist life of luxury rudely interrupted.

- ALADDIN #1 - An official sequel to the Disney animation courtesy of James III and Agnese Eterno. You know what, I have to hand it to Dynamite: since they started down this road of licensed kids comics, they've done a really good job of bringing in good talent to make good comics. So while I still raise an eyebrow at their swathes of variants on each issue, credit where credit's due.

- ZORRO'S LEGACY #1 - David de la Vega discovers he's the descendent of the great hero, Zorro. Inspired, he takes up the mantle, bringing justice to the streets of Los Angeles. A new take of the classic pulp hero by Dan Abnett and Aaron Lopresti.

- EXQUISITE CORPSES RASCAL RANDY #1 - A prequel to the main series telling the origin story of Rascal Randy, the bunny mascot with a thirst for murder. But where did it all begin? Well, sit by the fire with Tyler Boss and Dylan Burnett as they unravel the terrible tale.

- DISPATCHED #1 - It's Die Hard with a lucky dip in this series by B. Clay Moore and Daniel Gete. Morgan Power was a wetworks specialist, plying his classified trade all over the world. Now he's in a protection programme, working as a delivery driver in small town America, his old life left behind. That is until he's caught in a parking garage during a terrorist siege, with only his wits and the contents of a van full of random parcels to help him save the hostages.

- WITNESS POINT #1 - Nathan Fillion comes to comics, working with co-writer Heath Corson and artist Soo Lee. The town of Baraboo seems like an idyllic slice of small town America, until the truth comes out: it's filled to the brim with crooks of every stripe, dumped there as part of their witness protection deals. And when a brutal murder occurs, who can the town sheriff trust?

- IT'S SYMBIE #1 - A collected edition of Jacob Chabot's digital strips starring Symbie, the symbiote without a host, having wacky hijinks in the Marvel Universe. We've come a long way since Venom started eating people's brains back in the 90s.
And that's it! See you next week!
Andrew.
