HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

• KARMAN BLADE #1 - The unbeatable team of Darcy Van Poelgeest and Ian Bertram are back with an all-new series, set in a dark fantasy world. A boy must face the darkness within before he can master a star-born sword that will allow him to kill the world's tyrannical lord. As you would expect from this creative team, the result is anything but conventional, and Bertram's lush artwork is looking better than ever.

• BATMAN BAD SEEDS GOTHAM CENTRAL #1 - It's been a while, but the men and women of GCPD are back as a part of the latest big Bat-crossover. Christopher Cantwell and Jacob Phillips put the spotlight on Gordon and Espinoza, as they try to keep Gothamites safe while working around the edicts of Commissioner Vandal Savage and his vendetta against the Bat-family.

• SIX OF US #1 - Tom King and Gabriel Hernández Walta, the Vision creative team reunited, delve into the cutthroat world of American network television. The Six of Us was a massive Friends-style sitcom, with a cast whom everyone loved and who seemingly loved each other. But when one of them dies, all the dark secrets begin to come to the surface, and what seemed like a perfect chemistry was built on a culture of intimidation and betrayal.

• FOREVER HOME #1 - A slice of sci-fi horror from Christian Ward and Sami Kivelä. A scientist creates a self-contained survival ark for himself and his family as the world ends around them. Due to a time dilation, they live on into the future, never leaving their home, planning to lay the seeds of a new, better world. But horrors have grown outside, and when the seal is broken they'll do their darndest to get in.

• MARVEL GOLD ‘76 #1 - Stephanie Phillips and Madibek Musabekov take a trip back through time to the '70s, with a team consisting of Jack of Hearts (my 70s fave, for some bizarre reason), Star-Lord and Nova. Bullseye has been given a job by Galactus, of all people, and lord help anyone standing in his way.

• CHALLENGES OF DOOM SPIDER-MAN #1 - Al Ewing and David Messina spin an early tale of Spidey and Doom, and the good Doctor comes knocking. He has a plan that requires the input of a wall-crawler, but Peter Parker isn't biting.

• FOLK OF DOONEY HOLLOW #1 - Jeremy Haun and Alex Lins get their American folk horror on as a young woman heads to the Ozarks and stumbles on a legendary town whose people live in fear of a beast in the woods.

• SPAWN 77 #1 - Todd McFarlane and Mark Spears bring to life the version of Spawn that McFarlane originally envisioned as a kid. One informed by the grit and violence of the 1970s, and the vigilante known as Spawn takes on tthe menace of organised crime.

• THIS LAND IS OLD AND DARK #1 - A bit of colonial frontier horror from Ryan Crowe and Abel Garcia. Jacques du Lac is exiled from the safety of Fort Courage by its corrupt leadership. Now he must survive in an ancient wilderness where terror stalks the dark.

• DENVER #1 - In a flooded future, Denver is now the last bastion of humanity: a protected, tightly controlled mega-city. An ex-border agent finds himself dealing with a blackmail plot after his wife is kidnapped, and must venture beneath the city with a trusted crew to uncover its secrets. A new series by Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti and Pier Brito.
