The Gosh! Authority 15.06.22

Hello!

Another week of event excitement here at Gosh! First up on Tuesday the 14th (tomorrow night as I write this) we have the super-talented Luke Healy here to talk about his latest release from Faber & Faber, The Con Artists! Luke will be here from 7.30pm in discussion with journalist Rachel Cooke about his process, career, and fabulous new book, followed by a chance to get your copy signed. Click here for details.

And then on Thursday 16th, from 7-9pm, we'll have Emily McGovern here to launch her brilliant new satirical graphic novel, Twelve Percent Dread! Emily will be here to sign copies, chat with fans, and raise a toast to another undoubtedly successful book! Click here for details.

Everything back to normal on the delivery front this week (touch wood), so let's get to it!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • BONE ORCHARD MYTHOS THE PASSAGEWAY HC - Previewed for Free Comic Book Day, Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino's sprawling new horror universe - The Bone Orchard Mythos - starts here, with The Passageway! The B.O.M. is going to be an interconnected web of a dozen original graphic novels, one-shots and mini-series, each standing alone but connected to the others (with presumably some kind of meta-story unfolding). Sounds amazing, and given the complexity of Gideon Falls, these guys certainly have it in them to pull it off.

  • DO A POWERBOMB #1 - As a total junkie for Daniel Warren Johnson's work, it pained me this week to bump this to the #2 spot, but the power of Lemire/Sorrentino cannot be denied. Regardless, I'm pumped to get a new Johnson project, handling both the writing and art! In her quest to become a champion wrestler, Lona Steelrose falls in with a necromancer who has created a wrestling tournament unlike any before it. Sounds like a perfect showcase for two of DWJ's greatest strengths: kinetic action and crazy monsters.

  • SEVEN SONS #1 - Here's a thing: Jae Lee's first full comics work since 2012's Before Watchmen Ozymandias, and his first creator-owned work since Hellshock, way back in 1994! Here he teams up with writers Robert Windom & Kelvin Mao for a story of what may or may not be the second coming of Christ, set against a world history that deviated from our own in the 1990's. Looks interesting!

  • CAPTAIN AMERICA SENTINEL OF LIBERTY #1 - Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly (the writing team behind the very entertaining Kang the Conqueror mini-series) and artist Carmen Carnero launch the new Steve Rogers-centric Cap book. They're delving into the dark secrets behind the making of the shield, that most iconic of Marvel Universe props. Not sure what the dark secret is, but I'm guessing Nazis.

  • DC PRIDE TIM DRAKE SPECIAL #1 - A collection of the Tim Drake serial from Batman Urban Legends that saw him embrace his identity as a bisexual man, by writer Meghan Fitzmartin and artists Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque & Belen Ortega. Plus it also features an all-new story as Tim teams up with the Batgirls and the former members of Young Justice.

  • HULKLING & WICCAN #1 - Then, on the Marvel Pride-themed-comic-collecting-previously-serialsed-material front, Josh Trujillo and Jodi Nishijima's Marvel Infinity comic starring everyone's favourite married Young Avengers gets a print one-shot. Teddy and Billy are shown alternative life-paths not taken, leading them to question everything they have taken for granted about their love for each other.

  • ALBATROSS EXPLIODING FUNNYBOOKS #1 - The comics empire of Eric Powell gets its own anthology title, headlined by the ever-popular Goon! Powell also writes and draws his other eclectic characters, including La Diabla, Hillbilly & Lester of the Lesser Gods, along with all new strips and characters.

And that's it for this week, friends! See you next time!

Andrew.
