The Gosh! Authority 23.03.22

Hello! In case you missed it, we announced two upcoming events this week. Yes, the Gosh! events programme is back!

First up, we have a signing on Saturday 2nd April, 1-2pm, with Paul Bolger to help celebrate the Dark Horse release of his and Barry Devil's fantastic Hound! A retelling of the Irish myth of Cú Chulainn, Hound is a gripping fantasy tale etched in stark black and white with spotted reds throughout. Originally planned as an animated feature, it was adapted into a self-published graphic novel series, now collected into a handsome, chunky hardcover by Dark Horse. Details here.

And then on Wednesday 27th April, 5-6pm, we're very pleased to welcome Christian Ward back to the store for the debut of his all-new vampire crime saga Blood Stained Teeth! Christian writes this gritty, blood-saked drama published by Image Comics, with art by Patrick Reynolds. Not only will we have a stack of the first issue to get signed, but Christian will also have an extremely limited number of Blood Stained Teeth prints made especially for the occasion! Details here.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • MEK MEMOIRS FACSIMILE EDITION SIGNED BY KEVIN O’NEILL - With art by Kevin O’Neill and story by Chris Lowder (writing as Jack Adrian), Mek Memoirs was a landmark zine from 1976. Pre-dating 2000AD, this was the publication that reputedly convinced Pat Mills to allow robots in the pages of the Galaxy's Greatest Magazine. Newly created from scans of the original artwork, this facsimile edition comes wrapped in 8 pages of unseen material and reminiscences by artist Kevin O’Neill and writer Chris Lowder, including a brand-new cover by O’Neill created especially for this edition. In accordance with the artist’s wishes, the comic is presented without staples as originally published. Mek Memoirs comes in an envelope alongside a bonus print of a contemporaneous O’Neill artwork. All of Gosh's copies are signed by Kevin O'Neill and they most assuredly will not last long!

  • WE HAVE DEMONS #1 (OF 3) - The superstar team of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo reunite for an all-new tale of supernatural heroism. Originally serialized on Comixology (boo hiss), this tale of a woman battling for the Earth in a war of angels and demons is a solid read, and we've plumped for the fancy-pants foil covers as standard (same price as regular), so expect a little bit of glam in your buy pile this week!

  • ROGUES #1 - A new Black Label mini starring the classic Flash foes, set ten years into a future where they plan one last heist to set them up for retirement. Their target: Gorilla Grodd, now head of the world's biggest crime syndicate. Expect grit, grime, a splash of dark humour and maybe some gentle swears as Joshua Williamson and Massimiliano Leomacs take us into DC's underbelly.

  • WOLVERINE PATCH #1 (OF 5) - Turn back time to the heyday of Madripoor, and the criminal exploits of the man named PATCH! A mysterious character whose true identity is shrouded in mystery, but is presumably a big Wolverine fan, because boy look at that hairstyle! Larry Hama writes a story set prior to his classic run on Wolverine, joined by Andrea Di Vito on art.

  • GHOST CAGE #1 (OF 3) - East of West artist Nick Dragotta is back, co-writing a new sci-fi series with TMNT  & Sonic comics author Caleb Goellner. All energy production is monopolised by one man. But when his primary plant comes under attck, he sends in his robotic protégé to take control. Shades of Astro Boy and Mega Man in this oversized forst issue (which is presented in glorious black & white with Zip-a-Tone styled shading).

  • SQUA TRONT 14 - The legendary EC fan magazine returns for what looks to be it's final issue, featuring "Gene Colan and Russ Heath, an illustrated critical study of Atlas' Kurtzman-inspired war comics, a Kurtzman remembrance by R.O. Blechman, an astounding reprint of The Hartford Courant's campaign against "salacious and depraved" comics, a 12-page spread of Jack Davis's Coca-Cola advertising images and much, much more.

  • TRIAL OF AMAZONS WONDER GIRL #1 - The trial continues with this two-part mini as Yara Flor joins the contest. Joëlle Jones returns as writer and artist for this follow-on from Wonder Woman #785.

  • VENOM LETHAL PROTECTOR #1 (OF 5) - Forget Patch, let's revisit those days where Venom was a proper anti-hero courtesy of the original Lethal Protector mini writer (and Venom co-creator) David Michelinie and artist Ivan Fiorelli. Man, how long before we get some kind of Bendis-written "untold tales of the Avengers" series? I feel old.

And on that cheery thought, see you next week!
