The Gosh! Authority 09.06.22

Hello!

Event double-header this week, so mark your diaries for Friday evening and Saturday afternoon! First up is a Bog Eyed Books launch for both Tor Freeman's new graphic novel Sister Clawdetta and David Ziggy Greene's picture book Walkies! It's an after-hours do, kicking off at 7pm until 9pm. Expect drinks, chat and general bonhomie. Grab the details here.

Then on Saturday it's a bumper Rebellion signing for the brand new Battle Action Special, with contributors Mike Dorey, Garth Ennis, John Higgins & Sally Jane Hurst in attendance! They'll be here from 1-2pm on Saturday afternoon, and you should probably expect a queue (and possibly an item limit if it's busy). Details here

Don't forget that due to last week's Jubilee holidays comics will be out on Thursday. Happily we will be getting some lead-time on them, so expect everything on the shelves first thing Thursday.

Small week with a disproportionate bunch of #1's. Let's have a look, shall we?

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • AQUAMAN ANDROMEDA #1 - Most anticipated book of the week for me. Turns out splashing Aquaman into the waters of cosmic horror is just the incentive I needed to get on board with Aquaman. It's an out-of-continuity Black Label romp which sees the crew of an experimental submarine investigating a mysterious alien structure in the mid-Pacific: a structure that also attracts the attention of Black Manta and Aquaman. Terrific creative team in the form of Ram V and Christian Ward.

  • DARK CRISIS #1 - Here it is, the big DC event for the year! The legacy heroes step up to take the place of the Justice League (RIP) as they face attacks on every front by the DC universe's greatest villains. And that's not even taking into account the looming darkness that threatens to consume the DCU entire. Joshua Williamson and Daniel Sampere are at the helm of this 7 issue mini.

  • FORTNITE X MARVEL ZERO WAR #1 (OF 5) - My son's most anticipated comic of the year ships, mixing the Marvel heroes with the cast of gaming phenomenon Fortnite. As with the DC crossover, it's co-written by game mastermind Donald Mustard and ties directly into in-game continuity. And as with the DC one, each issue comes with a download code for an in-game item. Alongside Mustard are co-writer Christos Gage and artist Sergio Fernandez Davila.

  • DC PRIDE 2022 ONESHOT #1 - DC's Pride anthology returns for 2022, with the usual impressive pair-up of LGBTQIA+ characters and talent in a bumper collection of 13 stories (and 104 pages!)

  • JANE FOSTER MIGHTY THOR #1 (OF 5) - Jane Foster is back (in time for the upcoming Thor Love & Thunder) taking up the mantle of Thor once again to defend Midgard from an assault by Hela, Ulik and the Enchantress. Torunn Grønbekk & Michael Dowling are on the case.

  • POISON IVY #1 - Pam Isley is back in her own series by G Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara, picking up from the pages of Batman. Leaving Gotham, she sets out to enact a master plan: time to rid the planet of that pesky humankind once and for all.

  • MULTIVERSITY TEEN JUSTICE #1 - The premiere teen team of Earth 11 - Kid Quick, Supergirl, Robin, Aquagirl, Klarienne the Witch Girl, and Troy - take on the menace of Sister Blood courtesy of Ivan Cohen, Danny Lore & Marco Failla.

  • NUBIA QUEEN OF THE AMAZONS #1 - Trial of the Amazons spoilers if you're still working through the backlog! Taking place after the Coronation Special, Nubia embarks on a world tour to showcase the newly forged sisterhood of Themyscira. The creative team of Stephanie Williams & Alitha Martinez kick off Nubia's new solo adventures.

And that's it! See you next week!
