The Gosh! Authority 19.10.22

Hey folks!

Paul here, filling in for Andrew once more. Go on, admit it: you missed me, didn't you? Save your adulation, we haven't got time, because it's a jam packed week of events and comics at Gosh! Starting on Thursday 20th October with a celebration to launch New Yorker satirical cartoonist Will McPhail's new collection, Love & Vermin! Will is going to be in conversation with fellow New Yorker writer Monica Heisey, who has written for television shows such as Schitt's Creek and Baroness Vovn Sketch Show. They'll be in-store from 7-9 pm. Get the full details here.

On Saturday 22nd October, we launch our most event-packed day ever, with no less than eight comic creators joining us for events throughout the afternoon! First at 1pm-2pm, Tripwire celebrates it's 30th birthday this year and are releasing a special anniversary book with publisher Heavy Metal. To celebrate, we're hosting a jam-packed signing with special guests Andrew Colman, Simon Davis, Frazer Irving, Roger Langridge, Joel Meadows and Dan Schaffer. Get more details here.

Straight after that, at 2pm, the great Mark Buckingham takes the stage because (as you may have heard), Miracleman is back! Nearly 30 years since the publication of Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham's last issue of the groundbreaking title, Miracleman: The Silver Age returns, beginning again with a redrawn first issue. And we're honoured to be able to celebrate that release with an exclusive signing with Mark! Find out more here.

Then, to mark the release of the new DC Black Label series, ONE DARK KNIGHT, we're excited to have the one and only Jock in the shop! Jock will be signing copies of the gorgeous hardcover collected edition in-store from 3-4pm. Full details right here!

Now that you've caught your breath after all that, let's check out some comics!

  • MIRACLEMAN: THE SILVER AGE #1 – If you're dropping by our exclusive Mark Buckingham signing, you're going to need this. Mark has completely re-drawn this first issue of Miracleman's Imperial Phase so this is going to be a must! Plus, we'll also have The Golden Age Book 1 in stock, so make sure you pick up a copy!

  • BATMAN: ONE BAD DAY – THE PENGUIN #1 – The third in DC's look at turning points in the lives of the major Bat-villains, all of which have had top-tier creative teams working on them. John Ridley and Giuseppe Camuncoli join the roster with a look at what happens when The Penguin is forced to ask The Batman for help.

  • GCPD: THE BLUE WALL #1 – It wouldn't be a week in comics without multiple Batman-related titles, but it's a welcome break to get something like this. John Ridley once more takes a look at a tough subject via the lens of super-heroism and vigilantism, this time joined by Stefano Raffaele on what's sure to be a tough, controversial book.

  • DEADLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #1 – A very different (but still amazing) Spider-Man in this five-issue mini written by Taboo and B. Earl and art by the excellent Juan Ferreyra. Horror themed, just for October, this could be the most interesting take on Ol' Web-head in a while. Plus you get that stunning Rahzzah cover.

  • CRYPT OF SHADOWS #1 - Marvel's keeping it creepy with this Halloween one-shot featuring Moon Knight, Bloodstone, Wolverine and Werewolf by Night. Lots of talent working here, including Al Ewing, Danny Lore, Chris Condon, Rebecca Roanhorse, Geoff Shaw, Adam Warren and Ramon Bachs!

  • THE ABOLITION OF MAN #1 – Another book that may court controversy this week, especially with all the furore surrounding AI art. Created by the Eisner-nominated Carson Grubaugh who drew The Strange Death of Alex Raymond, Abolition of Man is entirely computer-generated and alternates between hilarity and horror as it looks to man's future.

  • ALPHA BETAS #1 – It's always great too see new comic series by Kyle Starks, who always brings the fun with his bawdy and bloody sense of humor. Michael Calero with Trevor Richardson are on art duties for this new book based on the hit adult animation show, which has proved to be a fast favourite with the gamers out there.

  • HARLEY QUINN: THE ANIMATED SERIES – LEGION OF BATS! - More HQ madness from the filthy animated show. Tee Franklin and Shae Beagle take Harley right to the top – as the leader of The Legion of Doom!

  • HELLBOY IN LOVE: GOBLIN NIGHT #1 – Always a good week when the Hellboy universe focuses on it's MVP. This harks back to the early HB tales with a mission to stop light-fingered Goblins and... a romance for big red??! Mike Mignola writes with Christopher Golden and art by Matthew Smith.

See you next week!
