Bit of admin: apologies to those who haven't received the email in recent weeks. I think I've gotten to the bottom of it now, so hopefully you're seeing this!
Honourable mention on the new comics front this week: a new issue of Lazarus Risen, at last!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- SGT ROCK VS THE ARMY OF THE DEAD #1 - Sgt Rock and Easy Company fight zombie nazis in a mature rated mini-series written by Bruce Campbell (yes, THAT Bruce Campbell) and drawn by Eduardo Risso? It's like some kind of bizarre fever dream that nobody better wake me from!
- OLD DOG #1 - After one last mission goes wrong for a CIA agent on the verge of retirement, he wakes years later to a changed world where his skills are once again put to use by forces he's never met against an enemy he doesn't know, with a partner he never expected. Declan Shalvey writes and draws this grizzled spy thriller, throwing in some unusual twists and turns to keep you on your toes.
- PINK LEMONADE #1 - Heads up Allred fans, in case you missed it last time, this one's for you! Nick Cagnetti's cult hit returns to print courtesy of Oni Press, taking you into the wild, colourful world of Pink Lemonade, a do-gooding heroine in a crazy world indebted to the madder corners of the gold and silver ages (with some dark and cynical undertones to add a little indie spice). Positivity wins in this little gem of a book.
- BRIAR #1 - Christopher Cantwell and Germán García take a dark look at Sleeping Beauty, setting her tale in a tough as nails fantasy world where there was no happy ending in the offing. This looks great: Cantwell is an up and coming writer to seems to be hitting all the right notes on his Marvel work, and García's work on the recent-ish Ka-Zar mini was absolutely stunning. Definitely worth checking out.
- AXE AVENGERS #1 - One of three essential one-shot tie-ins to Judgment Day, written by Kieron Gillen with art by Federico Vicentini. Tony Stark is part of the team trying to stop the Progenitor from carrying out its destructive judgment of the Earth, But in doing so, he finds himself undergoing a mental trial that sees him come face-to-face with one of the most pivotal figures from his past: Ho Yinsen.
- TIM DRAKE ROBIN #1 - Tim Drake, aka Robin #3, is back, once again taking up the mantle of Gotham's favourite sidekick. Meghan Fitzmartin writes, with Riley Rossmo on the art for a Robin book that firnly places Tim back at the heart of the Gotham City action.
- BATMAN THE AUDIO ADVENTURES #1 - A seven issue mini that continues on after the finale events of the popular podcast drama series. Writer Dennis McNicholas is joined by artists J. Bone & Anthony Marques.
And that's your lot for this week folks! See you next time!
Andrew.
